Community Conversations on Local Issues
Over the coming months the Speaking of Vancouver series of community forums will provide opportunities for Vancouverites to speak up about timely and topical issues impacting our city and its residents and neighbourhoods.
Councillor Sarah Kirby-Yung is serving her first term City Council and is past Chair and Commissioner on the Vancouver Park Board. She is committed to a livable and vibrant Vancouver, and has advocated for permitting improvements, quality key city services and summer patios. She champions small business, housing, people-focused public space, protection and expansion of parks and green space, and believes arts and culture are a vital part of a great city. Her experience includes senior management roles in the tourism and hospitality sector.
Councillor Lisa Dominato was first elected to City Council in 2018, following a one-year term as a Vancouver School Board trustee. She has played a key role in restructuring the VSB’s governance framework, introducing live-streaming for VSB meetings, garnering support for a provincial student-centered mental health strategy, and initiated discussions on fast-tracking the building and seismic upgrading of local schools. Her experience includes several senior management positions with the Government of BC, specializing in social policy.
Councillor Rebecca Bligh is a leader in her community and a passionate supporter of families, small business, and the environment. Along with being a first-term city councillor, Rebecca’s professional background includes facilitation and executive development on skills related to emotional intelligence, communication and leadership. Her volunteer work includes providing pro-bono executive development for the Dr. Peter Centre and Dr. Peter Aids Foundation, along with past fundraising and traveling to provide leadership training in education and conservation foundations in Mozambique and Ethiopia.
